Let me start this by saying, “hell yes.” This Tomato Basil Spaghetti recipe is so simple with few ingredients, yet still so delicious.
It’s no secret that I’m a pastaholic. While I have many of my own recipes I wanted to try something new. I wanted something light as I wasn’t in the mood for a heavy meat or cream sauce. Lo’ and behold my internet search was a quick success. I stumbled across this tomato and basil sauce recipe from NYT Cooking that contains all fresh ingredients and is so simple to cook.
The ingredients include:
- Olive oil
- Tomatoes, skins removed (I used roma tomatoes)
- Hot pepper flakes (to taste)
- Salt (to taste)
- Fresh basil
I followed the recipe almost to the T. The only alteration I made was adding a few cloves of garlic at the same time I simmered the tomatoes.

Tomato Basil Spaghetti would work just fine as main dish served with a salad or other veggie. I served it as a side to T-bone steak and Caesar Salad.
I highly recommend this recipe and give it all 5 stars. It was something new in our house and my husband even went back for seconds. We’ll add this to our menu here and there going forward.
